چکیده

Natural gas hydrate deposits are found in deep offshore environments. In some cases these deposits overlay conventional oil and gas reservoirs. There are concerns that the presence of hydrates can compromise the safety of exploration and production operations [Hovland and Gudmestad, 2001]. Serious problems related to the instability of wellbores drilled through hydrate formations have been document by Collett and Dallimore, 2002]. A hydrate-related incident in the deep Gulf of Mexico could potentially damage the environment and have significant economic impacts. Borehole and seafloor stability models are needed to predict potentially hazardous conditions. The inputs to those models will be provided by measurements. The purpose of this paper is to propose measurement schemes that are likely to be relevant to the safety problem. This survey is a starting point. It is anticipated that measurement requirements will co-evolve with our knowledge of hydrate deposits and our ability to model relevant aspects of them.

Potential effects of gas hydrate on human welfare.

For almost 30 years. serious interest has been directed toward natural gas hydrate, a crystalline solid composed of water and methane, as a potential (i) energy resource, (ii) factor in global climate change, and (iii) submarine geohazard. Although each of these issues can affect human welfare, only (iii) is considered to be of immediate importance. Assessments of gas hydrate as an energy resou...

Mechanical instability of monocrystalline and polycrystalline methane hydrates

Despite observations of massive methane release and geohazards associated with gas hydrate instability in nature, as well as ductile flow accompanying hydrate dissociation in artificial polycrystalline methane hydrates in the laboratory, the destabilising mechanisms of gas hydrates under deformation and their grain-boundary structures have not yet been elucidated at the molecular level. Here we...

Predicting the Hydrate Formation Temperature by a New Correlation and Neural Network

Gas hydrates are a costly problem when they plug oil and gas pipelines. The best way to determine the HFT and pressure is to measure these conditions experimentally for every gas system. Since this is not practical in terms of time and money, correlations are the other alternative tools. There are a small number of correlations for specific gravity method to predict the hydrate formation. As th...
